Following recent scientific studies regarding positive cases of Covid-19 in pets such as cats or dogs and other animals such as ferrets, minks or big cats, at IberoGen we have developed an RT-PCR (real-time PCR) test to identify the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in companion animals and other animals.
This analysis has the purpose of diagnosing positive cases from an early stage of the infection in order to effectively treat the animal, as well as take isolation measures, in order to prevent its spread.
At Iberogen we have developed an RT-qPCR protocol to identify the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in pets and other animals. This analysis has the purpose of diagnosing positive cases from an early stage of the infection in order to effectively treat the animal, as well as take isolation measures, in order to prevent its spread.
This protocol has been developed following the recommendations of the World Health Organization and scientific articles of international reference. The system used in the analysis has the same sensitivity as the tests carried out in hospitals for COVID-19 patients.
For the analysis, we provide a sampling kit to the veterinary managers, designed and developed in our laboratories, which they must use together with a protocol (Annex 1) to obtain the sample. The kit is intended to maximize virus sampling and ensure that it is inactivated once sampled.
*This sample must be taken by a veterinary professional.
